The Light of ReleasingMidweek Faith LiftNovember 15, 2017“Let Go With Conviction!”Su Podraza-Nagle LUTHow many of us have “stuff”? Materially, emotionally, spiritually. Just stuff we have in the suitcase in our minds that we’d like to get rid of, maybe get rid of, doesn’t suit us anymore, or just plain doesn’t fit in some way. How do we LET GO? With CONVICTION!Conviction: Let’s start by reading the definitionThe state of being convinced. Metaphysically, it is the divine assurance that comes to one when he is fully satisfied of the worth of Truth. Conviction refuses to be influenced by the senses because it is founded in the spiritual thought.~ Charles Fillmore, The Revealing WordHere’s a little story of how I learned to LET GO with CONVICTIONBack in the day, as I was starting down the road in Unity, I had a co-worker and friend, I’ll call her Mary the Optimist. She was a spiritual woman with a strong belief system and I enjoyed our conversations on many topics including religion while we worked together. She was always happy no matter what seemed to be going on in her life or at work. Me on the other hand, I called myself a realist with a pessimistic twist. I’d say things like, “No, this is the way it really is, take off your rose-tinted glasses and see the truth!” or “There’s no way around it, this job sucks!” She on the other hand would come back with wise comments like, “You see it your way and I see it differently. This job is better than none at all.”I asked her once how could she possibly be so happy and positive all the time. Her marriage was ending, her children were acting out because of the turmoil at home and she had to find an apartment with no credit! She responded, “Su honey, I choose to be happy and maintain a positive outlook and the stuff I’m going through now is only a moment in time. It’s not going to last forever. She was my first great spiritual teacher. Her marriage was falling apart, she had three kids to raise and she maintained her Truth through it all. She had conviction. I was a single parent, working full time and going to school part time.My Truth at the time was only that I had to make it through to the next paycheck.I wanted to be positive. I wanted to know how to make the “stuff” I was going through, just a moment in time. That was when I started to read Charles Fillmore-“There must be a renunciation or a letting go of old thoughts before the new can find a place in the consciousness. This is a psychological law, which has its outer expression in the eliminative functions of the body. Charles Fillmore, The Twelve Powers of Man.I had to LET GO of my perception of what I thought was real:“I have to work all this O/T to make ends meet……My life is a struggle…I have to maintain a 4.0 grade point average in order to be successful in my job……Am I really a good parent…My outlook on life is the ONLY real way to be….”I started small. In order to LET GO of my belief that my outlook was the only one, I mirrored Mary. If she could do it, so could I! I was convinced (divine assurance)Each day I affirmed the great possibilities of the day. I wrote it on my mirror with erasable markers. IN color! With conviction!I released the struggle and found the banquet of life. I released my obsession over my school grades and found my grades and work ethic still intact and soaring. I released my fear as a single parent and affirmed that I, in fact was a loving and involved parent.Romans 12:2 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.Conviction refuses to be influenced by the senses because it is founded in the spiritual thought. What areas of your life would you like to Let Go?Is there a particular mind set or thought pattern you would like to change? Let it go and Affirm the Truth of who you truly are!Is there a deeper spiritual part of you wanting to be expressed that you’re holding back? Release your hold on the gate and open to the possibilities and claim your Christ Self!Is there a closet in your home that needs to be released of its old treasures? Let Go of those old shoes, coats, clothing and boxed stuff that hasn’t seen the light of day in over a year! Recycle. Affirm your abundance and prosperity!LET IT GO! Use conviction! Two Container example:The Let Go and Let God Jar and Affirmation BoxHere’s another example for those who may need a visual. Here are two containers I have at home. One is a Let God handle it jar and the other, an Affirmation BoxIn the God jar, I write notes, letters even. Stuff I need to let go of. Things that aren’t mine to do. I drop a note in here and Spirit handles it. (yeah, sometimes I take it out again get frustrated and put it back) I then remember to LET IT GO!I highly recommend one.In the Box, are affirmations. Why? Because…….According to the ancient philosopher Aristotle, “Nature abhors a vacuum.”I don’t want any of my “Letting Goes” to come back. Just in case.Keeps my hand and mind out of Spirits business.I’ll end here with a passage from Dr. Lawrence in his thoughts of “Letting Go”Letting go of unwanted things, habits, attitudes beliefs and even people is an ongoing process for anyone who wishes to unfold spiritually. Allowing and accepting more of who you really are requires reflection, always involves some pain and suffering, and requires loads of compassion for oneself and everyone around you. As much as possible, relax, enjoy it and celebrate the process as often as you can. Know that letting go, which children are often better at doing, is the key to your growth and development throughout life.~ by Dr. Lawrence Wilson, LETTING GONamaste~
